Out of the Perth music scene comes a band unlike any other: Australian Critters, the self-described champions of family-friendly punk rock. Their debut single Alfriendo – out 12 September, is a riotous blend of humour, heart, and high-energy hooks.
Featuring a lineup of well-loved Perth musicians: Jane Azzopardi (Childsaint/Calmly) on guitar, Germaine Jones (Grunge Barbie) on drums, Declan Carrington (Rental Knives) on bass, and the irrepressible Sarah McSweeney on vocals, Australian Critters are equal parts chaos and charm. Their music is tongue-in-cheek but always catchy, channelling the joy of friendship into punk anthems the whole family can shout along to.
Alfriendo is a track destined to be sung at the top of your lungs, whether in the kitchen with a plate of spaghetti or in the mosh pit with friends. With playful riffs and an infectious chorus, it captures the band’s ethos of making music that doesn’t take itself too seriously while still packing plenty of punch. As the band explains:
“This song is about my unrequited love for pasta, there is no subtext.”
Alongside the single, Australian Critters will release an accompanying video. A gloriously silly and spirited visual feast that is ready for sharing now and set to premiere in tandem with the song’s release.

With Alfriendo, Australian Critters also announce their signing to Blue Grey Pink Management with Mark Neal, joining the award-winning label’s diverse roster of boundary-pushing WA artists. The band shows no signs of slowing down, with more summer-ready singles already on the horizon.
Audiences are quickly taking notice. As one early listener put it:
“It’s like the Wiggles mixed with Amyl and The Sniffers. It’s fun for the whole family.”
Another adding
“I laughed, I cried, I sang about spaghetti and felt feelings I have never felt before.
