Established Boorloo/ Perth trio Pat Chow have been playing their brand of indie-punk meets alternative grunge-rock together for over a decade now, seeing them win multiple WAM (West Australian Music) song of the year awards, tour the Australia and the US, and support the likes of The Ocean Party, Ball Park Music, Custard, The Peep Tempel, Flying Colours, Regurgitator, Everclear, Birds Of Tokyo and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets to name a few. With an unmatched songwriting MO that led to their 2 adored albums Are You Okay? (2015) and Overwhelming Care (2018), the band announce the release of their third and perhaps final studio album You Are So Valid.
“It’s called You Are So Valid – maybe to convince ourselves we are. Or maybe to make you feel a bit better about this being the last album we’ll be giving you” shares guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Ben Protasiewicz. With the same punk attitude that’s kept them alive so long, it’s the same Pat Chow that’s earnt your veneration with Jamie Gallagher chopping it drums and Andrew ‘Goldy’ Meredith pumping it on the bass, but this time they’ve taken a different approach.
“I took “full creative control” (for lack of a better term) for this LP.” shares Protasiewicz, elaborating that “This album is the Pat Chow trio you know and love with a producer fully unhinged and off the beam. I hope you hear the difference, compared to the first two.”
Previously released singles Slow Me Down and It Gets Worse lead the album, opening up cathartic passion and setting the pace across the very valid 8 songs. Pat Chow shines through the middle of the record, never slowing down with tracks like Attention Please and That’s It belting out anthemic sing-a-longs. Perfect Tour depicts the good experiences of performing around the world and celebrating ‘tour friends’, while the morose Eagles Wings close’s out the album beautifully.
With a fiercely independent Australian music ethos and raw, unflinching songwriting backed with a charismatic live show, Pat Chow have earned their place as a well respected Australian band. Each member self trained and residing in Perth for most of their lives, they’re staples in the WA scene, regularly at events and beloved by the community.
