JESS JOCELYN’S heartfelt debut EP FOETUS & FOSSIL

Taking over Boorloo with catchy melodies and ethereal soundscapes, Jess Jocelyn continues her string of thoughtful folk-pop-rock releases with the debut EP ‘FOETUS & FOSSIL’. This year saw the release of ‘Another Little Thing to Hold’, ‘Something Good’, and ‘For My Sweet Princess Ruby’, which feature on the EP alongside two additional tracks. Thematically and audibly strung seamlessly together song-by-song, FOETUS & FOSSIL evolves through guitar driven indie-rock, to lovable-dorky singalong pop with folky yearnings for hope and change, wrapping up with a “piano ballad to a burning world”.

Jess Jocelyn is the name of the ever-changing solo project of Boorloo-based artist Jess Nyanda Moyle. Born in Hong Kong, raised in Northern Perth. The 2nd gen Filipina/Australian is a writer of stories, a lover of footy, and when not performing as Jess Jocelyn or playing synth for Yawn Vibes, performs with Perth theatre company Squid Vicious. Influenced by the likes of Mitski, Paul Kelly, Tracey Chapman and Phoebe Bridgers Jess tells her stories through lyric-led, almost sickeningly catchy folk-pop-rock.

Recorded with Ryan K. Brennan (Phantastic Ferniture) at Tunafush Studios, with bass from Chris Grunwaldt (Yawn Vibes), driving guitars from Blain Cunnen. Strings from Claudia Tero (Claudie Joy and the Joy Boys), and baking vocals from Mark Neal (Odlaw), Chris Grunwaldt and Taylah McLean (Yawn Vibes), this EP captures raw stories of government inaction, existential dread, crisis, climate change, the 2020 Black Summer bush fires, and the beginning of the pandemic.
